British Columbia welcomes over 300 candidates for provincial nomination
On Wednesday, May 10, the government of British Columbia issued a total of 364 Invitation to Apply (ITAs) to foreign citizens wishing to live and work in the province. It was done under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), the province’s immigration nomination scheme. The draw saw an increase of 77 percent from the previous draw held last April in which candidates were invited under five different categories through the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).

The Skills Immigration (SI) stream of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is a way for people with the skills, experience, and qualifications needed by B.C. employers to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The SIRS, as defined by the province of British Columbia, is a ranking scheme that uses a unique points-based methodology to select qualified candidates across a range of sub-categories. All candidates registered in the system are assigned points depending on their biographical information, educational attainment, language proficiency, and other categories.

Only the highest-ranking candidates become eligible to receive an ITA from the province.
